For the tenth time, Johannes Hepting, a state-certified mountain hiking guide and member of the mountain rescue service, is leading a group of people with or recovering from cancer across the Alps together with his wife, Renate. He himself has faced a cancer diagnosis and, with his "20,000 Meters of Elevation Gain" project, wants to share his experiences, his connection to outdoor sports, and the strength he draws from them with others affected by cancer. Many cancer patients lose faith in themselves, their bodies, and the future due to the diagnosis itself, but also during the course of grueling therapies. For the Alpine crossing adventure, 8-10 participants are sought who are motivated to take on this great challenge. With the help of a team of sports scientists, physiotherapists, oncologists, sports medicine specialists, and hiking guides, the participants are prepared over three months and then accompanied on their journey in late summer.
